Admissions
University admission in Jordan is strictly regulated by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Requirements depend largely on your nationality, as this determines which admission stream (program) you qualify for.
Jordanian citizens studying inside the country primarily apply through the Regular (Competitive) Program or the Parallel Program.
To even apply to a specific major, your Tawjihi (or foreign equivalent) score must meet the national minimum threshold:
The Regular Program
This is highly competitive and handled entirely through a centralized portal called the Unified Admission Coordination Unit. Admission is based purely on your Tawjihi score. If accepted, your tuition is heavily subsidized by the government.
The Parallel Program (Al-Muwazi)
If your score is slightly lower than what the competitive regular program requires for your dream major, you can apply directly to the university via the Parallel Program. You still must meet the minimum thresholds above, but the acceptance scores are lower, and the tuition fees are significantly higher.
Foreign Certificates (IGCSE, SAT, IB)
If you are a Jordanian who did an international curriculum, you must obtain an official Equivalency Certificate (Mu'adalah) from the Jordanian Ministry of Education to convert your scores into a Tawjihi percentage before applying.
International students are highly welcomed and usually apply through the International Program.
Jordan offers a major advantage to international applicants: Non-Jordanian students are allowed to be admitted with scores up to 15 marks/percentage points lower than the competitive cutoffs required for Jordanians, provided they still meet the absolute baseline minimums set by the Higher Education Council (e.g., you still need an absolute minimum of 80% to study Engineering, even if the Jordanian competitive cutoff was 93%).
High School Equivalency
Your high school diploma must be authenticated by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in your home country, and then equated by the Jordanian Ministry of Education upon arrival.
Language Proficiency
If your chosen major is taught in English (like Medicine or Engineering), you will need to clear an English placement test or submit scores like TOEFL or IELTS. Students from English-speaking countries are exempt.
No-Objection Letter
Students from certain countries (such as Kuwait or other Gulf states) are required to submit an official "No-Objection" letter from their country's cultural attaché or embassy in Amman.
No matter which path you take, you will need to prepare a packet of official documents.
